Mission Statement

THE BIG PICTURE. Sooke is growing as a municipal community within Greater Victoria, with an urban-rural flavour all its own on the far west shore of Vancouver Island. MapleLine Magazine is a forum for conversation about current news issues as seen through the lens of living in Sooke.
Insightful news articles and backgrounders (both in our bi-monthly print magazine and ongoing online news pages) provide readers with ideas about a wide spectrum of today's current issues, with a mindful balance between tradition and growth.
Topics explored in each issue cover a wide range of importance and appeal: business, community, the arts, education, youth, health & wellness, fitness & sport, the environment, the economy, real estate, politics, technology and cosmic stuff.
For our online presence, we hope people will be pleased that "they came, they clicked, and they learned something new".
We believe in being a supportive, active part of the community. In addition to providing news coverage about the Sooke area, we provide a journalism career training program and a new ArtsinSooke profile.
Articles / Content

WRITING ON THE EDGE. Today's bright readers expect more. MapleLine Magazine delivers informative reading with diverse, insightful articles by professional writers and industry leaders.
We cover the news and social issues that are in conversations everywhere, but with new angles and keen analysis. We report on these "through the lens of Sooke" wherever possible. Some of our regular online sections include local breaking news, the Arts in Sooke and also a Sooke Police Beat.
Starting with Fall 2010 each issue also includes a permanent section on leading issues in health and wellness, based on the success of our Health issue in Winter-Spring 2010 (v2n2). Also starting this fall we'll carry in-depth coverage of various aspects of the arts, as we explore the connection between the arts and well-being.
Bi-monthly* (6x/year) production of our print publication allows time for deep thinking, detailed editing and good writing. The result is a thoughtful volume of issues about Sooke in its many aspects. (*Starting with the Nov.2010 issue we are shifting from quarterly to bi-monthly.)
E-bulletins (posted online and e-delivered for free to online subscribers) provide current news bits and frequent opportunities for community groups, businesses and municipal government to post announcements and news. These easy-read bulletins are anticipated by email recipients ~ the news is condensed while offering links to more.
Subscriptions to the print magazine assure that you never miss an issue; ideal for anyone who loves keeping up to date with the news in Sooke but lives outside the town centre area. $15.95/year (6 issues by 1st class postal mail).
News releases and event announcements welcome: editor@maplelinemagazine.com .
Advertising / Sponsors

Welcome, advertisers and sponsors! Treat yourself and your business to customized ads that are a cut above the rest both in terms of design, importance of message, and good marketing results (whether short, mid or long-term).
Connect with your established clients and new customers in Sooke, the southern Vancouver Island area and the island's west shore through a dynamic advertising presence in MapleLine Magazine.
Reader retention of the print edition is strong through the 3-month cover date of each issue and even longer through the articles (with updates) and ads being posted within our website. It's a keeper!
Ad opportunities are available:
in the
print magazine,
on our website,
in our
bi-weekly e-bulletins,
in
flyers/inserts,
within
our reading rooms,
in
our storefront office (window and pamphlet rack).
Advertise a particular product or service, or be a topic sponsor for one of our webpage features or online conversations. Editorial themes and deadlines for 2010.
Our bi-weekly news bulletins are an affordable and effective way for advertisers to reach a growing list of readers with current announcements and promotions.
Our journalism career training program delivers solid news-writing training with a target audience of adults ages 17 to 35 who are seeking specialized newswriting career training. In Fall 2010 we will also start a Journalism Skills for Health Professionals workshop program. Corporate sponsorship of these programs allows businesses to make an even stronger impact within the community.
