BEYOND SOOKE

Dancing for Gold.
Canadian Olympic skaters Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir gave a nearly flawless performance Sunday night, Feb.21, at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. The Ontario ice dancers received the highest-ever score for an ice dance performance that night, and together with their romantic free dance performance Monday night, Feb.22, they achieved the Olympic Gold Medal for ice dancing. At ages 22 and 20, Moir and Virtue are the youngest ice dance medalists in Olympic history, and the first North American pair to win the honour.

Western Forest Products land up for sale again, March 8

Public input sought
> The Juan de Fuca Community Trails Association seeks public input to show support for preserving the Western Forest Products land for public access (for recreation, parks, trails and wilderness). "It's not a matter of dollars, but political will," says Sid Jorna, president, Juan de Fuca Community Trails Society.
> To contribute your support for 61 parcels of land to be utilized as public wilderness, write to sid2767@shaw.ca or see sample letter to politicians.

> NOTE: A joint meeting of Dr Keith Martin, MP with John Horgan, MLA, CRD regional Director Mike Hicks and Chief Planes from T'Sou-ke First Nation and Chief Chipps from Beecher Bay was held in February regarding the Western Forest Products lands. They reviewed a UBC plan to use the lands as an experimental forest. More info.
