HEALTH TIPS |
|
Precautions against H1N1 flu
In BC,
the H1N1 death tally is 8 out of a total 80
deaths in Canada from that flu (April to
Oct.15/09). The best action is prevention.
The US Centre for Disease Control offers a
comprehensive list of
prevention and treatment. Among
other tips, flu viruses can remain on
everyday surfaces for 2 to 8 hours after
being deposited there -- essentially, that
is everything you might touch as you go
through your day. Hand washing is the
key recommendation, as well as following
public health advice regarding any
school closures, avoiding crowds and other
social distancing measures. If you get the
flu and need to stay home it will be for
about one week, so it's recommended to have
adequate supplies on hand (food, medicines,
tissues and anything you might need to keep
yourself from leaving your home for a week).
