Eco and fashion seem to be a big hit right now, about as trendy as plaid and overpriced coffee. And now Sooke Harbor House jumps on the band wagon, coming November 27 with an eco fashion show. The Sooke Harbour House as the local couture of the accommodation world will host the show starting at 6 pm that Friday night, the event will be part of the B&B's annual 'Christmas in November' weekend.

Frederique Philip, co-owner of Sooke Harbour House, is excited about the new style of fashion show. In a telephone interview, she was keen to discuss how this night coming together and the excitement was infectious. The night will be showcasing not only vintage outfits and accessories collected from second hand stores from the Sooke and Victoria, but the show is also involving many Sooke designers -- both new and experienced --  welcoming them to enter their designs in a runway show and giving designers the opportunity to sell their work as well as get their names out there.

Ms. Philip is donating clothes from her own closet. A woman who has set a sense of unique style for herself and her accommodation facility, she seems to herself pull off a sense of style that is both west coast with the classy, funky flair of a high profile designer. Philip (who is known locally, by all, as simply Frederique) seems to have a penchant for costume-esque jewellery and bright tunics, and whenever questioned on wear she acquires her beautiful, work of art shoes she answers with a shrug and the name of a recognizable second hand store located near by. At consignment and second hand shops, vintage is affordable and unique.

Proceeds from this local fashion event are being donated to the Sooke Transition House. Attendance is $10 at the door and clothes will be up for bidding throughout the night. Refreshments will be available at the usual Friday Night Lounge. Live music by Brad Prevodores. Between the elegance of the Sooke Harbour House, the funky showings of new designers and the enthusiasm of the people involved, this is likely to be an upbeat evening with benefits to local business.
