Meditation ~
Our Way Home
Rev. Cedona
Holly
Where is your home? Is it the house you live in?
These days, it seems security is a luxury we no longer
have, given the increasing economic, political and earth
changes of our times.
So what can we ground on that never changes? Where
can we find true security?
By closing our eyes and tuning into our deeper Self
we can indeed find Home right inside of us!
Meditation is a practice. It is not a one time: “I’ll
try it and if it doesn’t work, I’m outa here”!
Meditation is a practice which deepens with time and
repetition. If you have many thoughts when you close
your eyes, your are just like everyone else. This is
completely normal and natural! The mind is made to
think. Transcending thought (the “lower mind”) comes
with time and dedicated practice.
But you may rest assured that each time you meditate
you are learning a new skill and coming closer to
finding inner peace. If you had given up on learning to
read or learning to ride a bicycle the first time you
tried, where would you be now? Meditation is a skill and
as such is developed with love and patience.
You may imagine a bank account into which you make
deposits. Each time you meditate you make a deposit into
your “Inner Peace account”. Once you have sat down you
automatically have made a deposit, no matter how many
thoughts you have. Please note, you can never withdraw
from this Inner Peace account. You only make deposits.
What good news! Each time you got on your new bike you
were getting closer to learning how to ride with ease,
weren’t you?
The transformative techniques I was introduced to in
the early nineties have given me the gift of enjoying
deep meditations even while thinking. It is all about
developing much greater self awareness, including
awareness of our energetic make up. There are tools we
can use which help us go into deep relaxation, allowing
our bodies deep rest and renewal even in the midst of
thinking. And, yes, with patient practice, our thoughts
do thin out and eventually begin to dissolve.
Is meditation just a way to still our mind? For me
meditation is a way to connect with our sense of Home,
the Truth of our being. We have an opportunity to tap
into our true Nature, infinite spaciousness, emptiness,
Love, peace, stillness and more. Each person’s
experience will be unique to them!
We can connect, through developing greater energy
awareness, with Infinite Intelligence within and
without. When we tune in and connect with ourselves in
this deeper way many changes can take place. This is the
great Homecoming we have waited so long for. Nothing can
take the place of it! It is in the
stillness we find our way Home. This is the greatest
blessing. It is a sacred experience. It sustains us when
life gets challenging. It is the oasis we can always
drink of, the water in the desert. It is our very own
eternal Home which can never be taken from us, no matter
what is happening on the outside. We can indeed connect
with the Truth of our being.
Whether you wish to simply lessen anxiety and stress
or wish to find your way to your Infinite Nature,
meditation can help you. Your inner wisdom will give you
what you are ready for, no more and no less!
During these times of great outer upheaval and
potential overwhelm, meditation is a way to say “Stop!”
I’m going inside, into the Heart of Home, to the Truth
of my being. It is always there, always waiting. Our
true Self is patiently waiting for us to reconnect when
we are ready. We can then take this great inner
nourishment out into the world, using it to enhance
every aspect of our lives, bringing more peace, love and
gratitude to our every day living.
“Meditation is the great journey home into the heart
of love, to the place of infinite vastness in the centre
of the heart. May all who say yes to this journey find
their way Home” - from Meditation Manual for the
Modern Day Mystic.
