 MARY P. BROOKE  

Mary P. Brooke is a community leader in Sooke with her quarterly publication MapleLine Magazine for which she is publisher and editor. MapleLine ENews is a bi-weekly mini magazine and there are daily updates as news happens.  Mary launched the MapleLine Journalism Program in September 2009 which coordinates a team of local news writers who will build portfolios and each earn a certificate.

Mary P. Brooke is a writer, editor, publisher and adult educator.

Mary has over 20 years experience in writing, editing, print management, publishing and adult education. She also holds a B.Sc. in foods and nutrition (with a second major in sociology and consumer studies) and is expanding the publication of health information through MapleLine and other publications. Her company Brookeline Publishing House Inc. has been providing business marketing and publishing services since 1993, as well as operating the elearning portal ELearningCanadaDepot.com since 1999. For the books that she edits, designs or publishes, there is BooksbyBrooke.com .

Mary is a member of the Sooke Harbour Chamber of Commerce (including editing of the Chamber's newsletters and coordinating the photo contest for the Sooke Spirit Festival), the Sooke Community Arts Council, and the Editors Association of Canada. She will be a panelist about book publishing at the Canadian Authors Association 2010 annual conference in Victoria.

Mary was a Service Industry Business Excellence award finalist at the Sooke Harbour Chamber of Commerce awards event in November 2009.

Mary hosted a booth about MapleLine Magazine at the Family Arts Fair at SEAPARC in April 2009 and also at the Sooke All Art & Literary Fair in July 2009.

In 2007-2008 Mary Brooke served on the PAC of John Muir Elementary School where she was instrumental in organizing safety-related changes to the parking lot and sidewalk system.
