Pirjo Raits, as the editor of the weekly Sooke News Mirror since 2006, plays a critical role in setting the tone of news coverage in Sooke.

She attends many of the District of Sooke Council meetings and many other events and activities in town, to report on news and events of importance to the Sooke community.

She received a gift (a carved bowl by Phoebe Dunbar) from the Sooke Food CHI organization at their Nov. 25, 2009 Annual General Meeting, in thanks for her extensive press coverage of food issues in the Sooke area.

Pirjo made a presentation to the students of the MapleLine Journalism Program in October 2009, bringing along her Canadian Press Style guidebook (every journalist's "bible")!
