Sooke Leadership Profile Online exclusive ~ MapleLine Magazine
RICK ARMOUR
|
Rick Armour has been a community leader in one capacity or another since moving to Sooke in 1994. He was a District of Sooke councillor during the 2005-2008 term and was a commissioner on the SEAPARC Leisure Complex advisory board during 2006-2008 (notably bringing the Youth Drop-In Event to the Sooke Community Hall on Saturday nights). For eight years he has organized the Safe Halloween activity, merging with the Sooke Fire Department's haunted house a few years ago.
Armour has organized the lighting of the tall tree (by the logger's pole) in town centre and is the official Parade Marshall for the upcoming December 5, 2009 Sooke Spirit Festival. The parade day was bright with no wind -- it did not rain (or snow) on 'his parade'. :-) For the Sooke Harbour Chamber of Commerce, Rick coordinates the Adopt-a-Highway program, liaising with local businesses and service organizations. Rick Armour is an avid hiker, and in 2010 will be leading short day-hikes in the Sooke area (see the SEAPARC Leisure Complex program guide). His 'day job' is working as a rep for LordCo auto parts.
