Update June 28/10:  The event was well attended. Mayor Janet Evans made an official presentation.

Welcome Wagon is celebrating its 80th anniversary with a bang in Sooke, with a picnic for all "newcomers to Sooke in the last year" but spanning all newcomers also in East Sooke, Otter Point, Shirley, Jordan River and Port Renfrew that have arrived in the last 12 months.

Being organized for Sat. June 26 (1:00 to 3:00 pm) by regional Welcome Wagon reps -- Judy MacNeill (Sooke), Sonia Lambert (East Sooke and new mums), and Liz Kreeft (Saseenos, Otter Point to Port Renfrew) -- the event promises to be a significant community-builder. Open to all (a visit from Welcome Wagon in the past year is not a pre-requisite to attend this party).

There will be live music at the bandshell by Jennifer Louise Taylor Trio for this BYOP (bring your own picnic, and chair or mat) event.

The free picnic will be held at Ed Macgregor Park on West Coast Road -- just a hop, skip and jump from town centre.  Sponsors will have booths and tables with information. There will be prize draws.

For more information phone Judy MacNeill at 250-642-2268.  MM
