  MapleLine scoop... November 9, 2010. Turns out that July 1, 2010 this was Dr. Keith Martin's 2nd last Canada Day as MP for Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca... on Nov.9/10 he announced that he's leaving politics, staying in office only until October 2011.  STORY

 

Sooke's Canada Day activities began at 12 noon Pacific Time at the Sooke Flats and the party continued to 11 pm

The dignitaries were out in full force at Sooke's Canada Day event held at Sooke Flats July 1, 2010. After formal speeches on stage by Dr. Keith Martin, MP, John Horgan, MLA and Janet Evans, Mayor of Sooke, there were fun events, booths and displays, a pet abilities event, fire department hoses in competition with each other, log cutting competitions, a raft race and much more. Families were out in large number for the free event organized by Judithe Ann Gatto and her Canada Day Sooke team of organizers.  The official emcee was George Holmes, with the Ocean 98.5 radio station taking it from there. The band in evening live on stage is Rukus. Fireworks after 10 pm.
