The trend away from large weddings to more simple, intimate ceremonies does not put a crimp into the style of Andrei Fedorov, a local Sooke photographer who captures special moments without being intrusive. Using various selective focuses, he captures a range of textures – soft, sharp and contrasty – of the Sooke outdoors, especially at beaches. Between foreground and background he aims for multiple layers and textures to create interest in these photos that must last a lifetime.

“It’s interesting and fun to photograph weddings,” says Andrei, who is also the staff photographer at Sooke Harbour House. “When the moment and emotion is captured well, people keep going back to it. These photos give them a chance to remember,” says the confident photographer. He has followed his passion as a professional photographer for over 12 years in Sooke where his focus has been on tourism and food photography, which he identifies as the driving industry for the local economy. His photo career began with doing automobile reviews for car magazines, which was technical and analytical. Work in commercial and architectural photography followed, until he found his passion for creating images for food magazines and producing wedding memories with fantastic angles.

Wedding photos are taken in small groups in addition to exclusives of the bride and groom themselves. “If the wedding is at a small B&B we take the photo session to a beach – there are three beaches within 10 minutes of town. Our rugged west coat has secluded  beautiful scenery,” says Andrei, seeming to explore the landscapes in his mind as he talks. “For bigger groups we might head to the Olympic View Golf Course with both beach and forest opportunities.” The final package of photos will have a broad spectrum of images and different atmospheres.

“The look and feel will vary, he said. He chatted quickly, too, about a new trend – the green wedding – with disposable dishes and a small group enjoying an intimate moment in time, with no mass of vehicles for crowds attending a huge party.

One of the wedding packages offered to busy wedding planners is the 10-hours-of-coverage plan, with unlimited photo locations, a proof album, and final CD/DVD with high resolution pics, all included for one price.   MM
