SOOKE, BC. November 22, 2010. Snowfall reaching about 3 cm by 12 noon (and 4 times that amount by 4 pm) was the cause of school closures and meeting cancellations for the Sooke area today, November 22. At 1 pm the temperature was -5oC, with a windchill of -11oC.

While schools were open in the morning, by noon it was apparent there would be road condition issues by dismissal time, so the busses showed up during the noon hour at Journey Middle School. Some businesses will not be open tonight (e.g. Ahimsa Yoga and Sooke Dance Studio have cancelled their evening classes), some organizations have cancelled their meetings (e.g. The Kludahk Outdoors Club), and the District of Sooke has cancelled their pre-scheduled Nov.22 Council meeting (rescheduled to Mon. Nov.29, 2010 at 7 pm).

As of 1 pm (and again at 6 pm) there were no reported power outages.

Apparently the road was closed around noon at Grant Road and West Coast Road due to snowy conditions.

The weather forecast for tomorrow (Tues. Nov.23) is a high of -4oC (windchill -12oC) but with no expected precipitation (either rain or snow).     MM
